Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO)

We are the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) here at Little Thurrock Primary School and our job is to help Miss Dowsett with the school’s Travel Plan. We have regular meetings with Miss Dowsett and sometimes we get a visit from Julie Cooper, from Thurrock Borough Council, who gives us tasks to do or helps us understand our roles better.

Our role entails:

  • Setting up and maintaining the Road Safety notice boards

  • Holding assemblies to raise road safety awareness

  • Working with Thurrock Borough Council to support initiatives such as 'Be Bright, Be Seen' and 'Road Safety Week'

  • Organising competitions so other pupils raise awareness about road safety.

Who are we? (from left to right):

Our Five Top Tips for safe and sustainable travel:

  1. Where possible, try to walk or cycle to school.

  2. Always try to cross where there is a crossing.

  3. Wear at least one item of bright clothing to make sure you are seen - especially in the dark!

  4. Look both ways and listen for cars when crossing the road.

  5. Try to avoid looking at your phone or device when near a road.
